Afroveda Ashlii Amala Deep Conditioner and Herbal Cleansing Rinse.

Cost:
Herbal Cleansing Rinse 4oz, $12
Ashlii Amala Deep Conditioner 8oz, $21.95

Review

The verdicts
I will not be repurchasing the Cleansing Rinse because I can make my own for less. But this is still a good product for non ingredient mixtresses. 3/5 stars.

I will be repurchasing the Deep Conditioner. Sometimes you do get what you pay for and this is an example of that. But I will only buy it when there is a sale :). 5/5 stars.

She Scent it Banana Brulee Conditioner

Ingredients

Water (infused with Aloe, essential extracts of Cinnamon, Black willow bark, Roman Chamomile, Rose hip seed) Cetyl alcohol, Bananas, Emulsifying wax, Castor oil, Vegetable glycerin, Coconut oil, Avocado oil, Honey, Hydrolyzed cotton seed protein, Cocoa Butter, Sweet almond oil, Babassu oil, Silk amino acids, Panthenol, Silica, Germall plus.

Cost: 8 oz $11, 16 oz $17

Review

I really like this conditioner. It is very thick and pretty moisturizing. I also like how it comes in a tub so that you can get every little bit out. I do not like to waste product. Her ingredients are awesome, natural and pretty affordable.

You can now choose 4 different scents. I like the Coco Mango scent, but I wasn't feeling the Banana scent, it smells too fake to me.

Shescentit is very fast with shipping and responding to emails. When I stock up on her conditioners my order usually the ship out between 1-2 days. She runs sales almost every holiday, usually 20-25 percent off so this is a plus. She has many different conditioners at different prices so they can fit anyone's budget.

The verdict

4/5 stars. I really like this conditioner and its price. But I think that some of my other conditioners are a little bit better, like my AOHSR. I will always keep this stuff in my arsenal though. Make sure you wait for a sale which usually is every holiday, the next one is labor day :).

Qhemet Biologics Amla Oil Norishing Pomade

Ingredients

Vegetable thickener, ayurvedic amla, coconut oil, essential oil blend

Cost: 4oz $16

Review

This product is to be used like traditional hair grease. You can slick down your edges or grease your scalp. Also this can be used to thicken the hairline or to reverse hair loss due to the Ayurveda ingredients. I think that amla being so high on the ingredient is a plus. Most products that have amla in the product name usually have it farther down the ingredient list. However, since there are so few ingredients in the Amla Pomade, this may be deceiving.

The AONP was not heavy enough to slick down my edges. It has a nice lemony scent and a greasy consistency. It is kinda expensive, but only a little is needed for the scalp and hairline. I really did not know what to do with it, other then using it to grease my scalp or to seal my hair. But this Pomade is way too expensive to be sealing my hair with it, I have allot of hair.

The verdict

This stuff was alright. It did not blow me out of the water, but was not bad. Kinda expensive for 4 ounces but I have seen worse. 3/5 stars.

Steamer

Cost: $129 with free shipping from salonrus.com

Review

And to think I was spending so much money to find a staple deep conditioner, but in all actuality the steamer was the key to unlocking my conditioners' full potential! I still like to try new conditioners once in a while, but the steamer makes every product is use with it 10x better. Essentially the steamer will supercharge your conditioners. Products are better absorbed into my strands which leaves them much more manageable. Also it makes my hair much easier to detangle.

It is a good investment! I actually can use less conditioner when doing my DC's. I DC three times a week for about 30-60 minutes under my steamer and my hair has never felt so moisturized.

Salonrus.com is very timely with shipping. The day I ordered it they shipped it out. That is great customer service. The instructions are a little weird to put the steamer together. The picture of what it looks like helps allot though.

The verdict

This thing is a miracle. It is worth every dime, 5/5 stars.

Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner

Ingredients

Coconut Fatty Acid Cream Base, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Shea Butter, Wheat Germ Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Rosa Mosqueta® Rose Hip Seed Oil; Extracts of Fennel, Hops, Balm Mint, Mistletoe, Camomile, Yarrow, Chrysanthemum, Angelica, Forsythia and Magnolia; Honeysuckle Oil, Carrot Oil, Aubrey’s Preservative (Citrus Seed Extract, Vitamins A, C and E).

Cost: 11oz $6.34 from vitaglo.com

Review

This stuff is so moisturizing. No matter how I use, it whether overnight with no heat, under my steamer, or under my Pibbs my hair is silky soft after I rinse it out. It has great ingredients and is 100% natural. It smells so good, I love the scent.

This is the thickest conditioner that I have ever encountered. I love thick creamy conditioners because I feel as though they coat my hair the best. It is so thick that when the bottle runs low it is difficult to get the remaining product out of the container. I find it necessary to cut the bottle in half to be able to scoop out the remaining product, hey I am trying to get my money's worth!

Aubrey Organics is a 100% natural product line that consists of hair and body products. Their products are readily available online and at brick and mortar stores such as Whole Foods and Vitamin Shoppe. So that is a plus as well.

The verdict

This is an awesome product! It will be a staple for life, therefore 5/5 stars!

Qhemet Biologics Olive and Honey Hydrating Balm

Ingredients

Pure Olive (Olea Europa) Oil, Virgin Sesame (Sesamum Indicum) Oil, Pure Grapeseed (Vitis Vinifera) Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Emulsifier, Pure Wildflower Honey, MSM (Methysulfonylmethane), Vitamin E (Mixed Tocopherols), Essential oil blend

Cost: 8oz $16.00

Review

This stuff is gold for real! It is a sticky constancy like honey which at first I was wary of. I cannot stand sticky or oily hair! But when I put it on my wet hair it was fantastic after it dried. My hair was so soft and so moisturized. I use a leave-in conditioner or a moisturizer under this product, really anything will do. This product will seal in any moisture it ends up on top of. It is not a moisturizer however because it does not contain water. You only need a little. I use it every day and one jar lasts me 5 months and I am very heavy handed. This stuff is all natural so this is awesome! It has a light lemony scent like all of her products.

I would not use it on my dry hair because products act better for me when my hair is wet. But I have heard that other ladies like it on dry hair as well.

Qhemet Biologics is a great brand. The owner responds lightening fast to emails and is very personable. However, due to these products being handmade, there may be up to a two week wait time for your products to be shipped. Also, sometimes the online store is closed due to sale preparations and to restock supplies.

These products have gone through intensive testing and have only the finest ingredients. QB is also available in some retail locations in a few metropolitan cites. I know that Senab in DC carries Qhemet Biologics.

The verdict

Best. Stuff. Ever. 5/5 stars!

Hairveda Whipped Clouds

Ingredients

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit (and) Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Vitamin E, Hydrolized Collagen Fragrance. 4oz.

Cost: 4oz $7.75, 160z $27.00

Review

I don't know about this one yall. When I opened it up it looked like some oil floating on top of some cottage cheese. It felt like spongy cottage cheese. It is slimy as well. It smells like dirty vegetables, I think the smell is supposed to be cucumber? I'm sorry but like with food you "eat" with your eyes first. And I guess in this case you "eat" your nose and your touch first as well. This is a SheaAloe mixture, but I could not imagine putting this mess in my hair, let alone touching with a 7 and 1/2 foot pole.

On the site it says not to use it on wet hair because it may leave your hair crispy. Well I only can put stuff on my hair when it is damp or wet, otherwise my hair will not absorb it.
I gave it to my cousin for her to use it as a moisturizer/lotion. She is a lotion freak and she won't even put it on her skin. She put it on her hair and it left a oily mess.

Luckily I got this stuff for free. Otherwise I would be mad.

The Verdict

I can't do this stuff man 1/5 stars.

Review

These conditioners are great value cowash conditioners for people looking for more natural products. These conditioners do not have cones or parabans and that is always good! The ingredients are excellent and more beneficial ingredients are high on the ingredient list, thus in higher concentrations. I do not cowash anymore, but when I was this stuff was fantastic. I would not use it as a deep conditioner though, it is not thick enough. I bought all three to be able to switch it up when I needed protein or moisture, depending on the ingredients.

The Verdict

I give it 4/5 stars. It is cheap (if you go to Marshalls), has great ingredients and is readily available. It is not 100% natural however due to some of the preservatives, and is not favorable for a deep conditioner.

Hairveda Vatika Frosting

Ingredients

Coconut Oil, Amla Extract, Henna Extract, Lemon Extract, Fragrance.

Cost: 8oz $10 (Only available late September till April.)

Review

Its basically glorified Coconut Oil. I wouldn't give it the time of day if it didn't smell so freakin good. It smells like the tastiest, creamiest buttercream cake you have ever smelled. Vatika Frosting is what motivates me to DC in all honesty. I DC just so I can smell it in my hair.....oh man....I would DC every day for that smell.....

My hair likes coconut oil so this stuff is good for me. You can use it as a prepoo, a sealant etc. It is kinda expensive if you consider that a 54 ounce container of coconut oil from vitacost.com is like $30. But I make sure to order mine during the sales; usually it will be half price. I just stock up and buy 10 at a time during sales.

Hairveda is right down the street from me. It would be great if they had a storefront location. Customer service has rebounded since the introduction of a new sales associate. If you want your stuff fast though do not order during a sale. It might take up to a month for you to receive your products due to the popularity of Hairveda.

The Verdict

I like this stuff, I give it a 4/5.

Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar Pomade

Ingredients

Castor oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, organic virgin coconut oil, mango seed oil, olive oil, unrefined hempseed oil, cocoa butter, broccoli seed oil, fragrance and love

Cost: 4oz $10, 8oz $16

Review

On wet hair I use it slick my edges down and the front on my hair down. This product so far is the only pomade that has been able to tame my frizzies in the front. The smell is intoxicating, like pancakes with sugar. It only takes a smidgen of product and one jar will last you for a long time. It is very thick so it might be wise to warm it up a little by rubbing your palms together with the product in between them. I really like thick products and this one is great!

The Oyin Handmade store is 35 minutes away from me, so it is very convenient to be able to go to the store to avoid shipping costs and wait times. However, I have heard that their wait times for shipping products can be 2-3 weeks. If I didn't live near the Oyin store, perhaps this might be a problem for me. You can always order from Curlmart.com, but the product will not be as fresh as getting it straight from Oyin. I know that handmade products may take a while to ship, due to everything being made fresh. But I have seen other reviews where Oyin's customer service seems questionable in regards to communication issues.

The Verdict

I give it 5/5 stars for my hair. It slicks back my hair like no other, smells great, and I can pick it up from their store on Saturdays from 12-7.

Kinky Curly Knot Today

Ingredients

Ingredients: organic Mango fruit extract, organic slipper elm, organic marshmallow root, organic lemongrass, cetyl alcohol, behentrimonium methosulfate, citric acid, phenoxyethanol and natural fragrance.

Cost: 8oz, $12

Review

I bought this product to use in conjunction with Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I did allot of research and learned that KCKT is essential to lay the groundwork for the KCCC. For that purpose I feel like this product does a good job. It is very liquidly and thin in constancy and it has a light fragrance. It is a pretty good detangler for being so thin and this product was a blessing when I had shorter hair. However, I have realized that as my hair had gotten longer and thicker it needs a cream based detangler.

In all actuality I think that any lightweight leave-in would be good to use as a foundation for KCCC, so this product may be substitutable.

On its own without using it with KCCC it really didn't do anything for me. I felt like my hair was not moisturized with this product by itself. I had to add other products on top of it to make my hair feel soft.

The Verdict

I give it 3/5 stars for my hair. I think that by itself KCKT can not stand on its own. I think though if you are using it for KCCC then this product is pretty good. You can probably find a cheaper alternative though, $12 for 8 oz is not cheap!

Karens Body Beautiful Hair Milk

Ingredients

Purified Water, Jojoba and Avocado Oils, Vegetable Wax, Vitamin E, Panthenol, Arnica and Calendula Flowers, Echinacea, Nettle and Horsetail Extracts, Vegetable Glycerin, Wheat Germ Oil, Fragrance Oil and Natural Enzymes

Cost: 8oz, $16

Review

I made sure I got the unscented version so I wouldn't be biased because of the scent. I wanted to see how the Hair Milk performed rather how it smelled. I used it as a leave in at night, and woke up to matted dry hair. I usually use QB AOHC as a leave in at night and have never had a problem.

Then I used it during the day as a leave-in a couple days later. It was a humid day. The reason why I mention the humidity is because the Hair Milk has glycerin which is a humectant. Humectants absorbs moisture from the air, so when the humidity is high enough your hair will be moisturized. However, if the humidity is low, it will draw the moisture from your hair making it dry.

Even on a hot humid day it dried my hair out. I think it is because of the vegetable wax, which seems to be a key component of this product.

Now my FH uses it, he has 2b hair. He likes it.

The Verdict

I give it 1/5 stars for my hair. I will not be repurchasing and my FH will be using up the remaining bottle. For his hair I give it a 4/5.

Qhemet Biologics Amla and Olive Heavy Cream

Ingredients

Castor (Ricinus Communis) Oil, Olive (Olea Europa) Oil, Distilled Water, Organic Amla (Phyllanthus Emblica), Organic Aloe (Aloe Ferox) Africana, Organic Brahmi (Bacopa Monniera), MSM (Methosulfonylmethane), Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Emulsifier, Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol & Ethylhexyglycerin (Mild, Food Grade Paraben-free and Formaldehyde-free Preservative), Essential Oil Blend.

Cost: 8oz $16.50

Review

Let me tell you about this wonderful product. When I first heard about the Qhemet Biologics line I was very interested. It is a natural product line that caters to naturally curly hair. I researched a little further and the general consensus was that the Amla and Olive Heavy Cream product was the goto product.

Well let me tell you, it is now my staple moisturizer! It is very thick and castor/olive oil based. When you turn the container over, no product spills out, that's how thick it is! I use it every night on WET hair as my moisturizer and always wake up to soft hair.

I tried it on dry hair, but it was not effective as it is on wet hair.

The verdict

I give it 5/5 stars! I have two in my stash and one on the way!
